First week (6-13March)

Earnings Call:
Hello friends,
My first proper week of Ubering has been pretty good, it’s better than sitting at home and living off your girlfriend.

$1,211.22 Gross after Uber takes their cut. This doesn’t take into account GST which is 10%, (can be offset on GST of expenses relating to the job e.g. petrol, car maintainence, bottled water, etc.), petrol, depreciation of car and income tax. Goal for next week is $1500. It’s tedious sometimes when there are no passengers but when that interesting passenger comes along, you get boosted for a good few hours due to the contrast to the boredom.

TOP PAX (Pax = Passenger)

She was with Elon!
elon musk colonization of mars

There was this one girl who just moved from Melbourne and she was a member of the RMIT Hyperloop Pod building competition team. I got soooo excited, Elon Musk was there! She was the communication officer so she was in charge of getting coverage for their team and other media stuff. She said it was really interesting but they only raised $100,000 to build the proto-type and other teams had $500,000. Also they actually didn’t past the safety test to even put their pod in the vacuum tube. Bad luck. Now she’s working for a online marketing company.

She loves RAMEN!
Picked up (in my Ubermobile) this Asian girl from the inner west, started chatting straight away, she had a very elegant, mature but sweet voice. She was different to everyone, most people are eager to tell you about themselves, their achievements but she wasn’t like that. She loves Ramen very very much, she loves Japan, she doesn’t like the fact that the Chinese thinks white people are more legit. She asked me where my favorite Ramen place was and I tried to be hipster and said its the one at the Chinatown food court but I actually thought Ippudo, didn’t want to recommend franchise food, then I asked her and she said Ippudo! Right then and there I was going to ask her if she wanted to go have Ramen with me, but instead I said “The texture of the Ramen at Ippudo is really nice”.

Interesting Facts / Fictions.

1. GoGet pays $1600 – $2000 per month to use those Car share spots.
2. ” It’s not looking good”, PHD Climate Scientist.
3. “Best way to get over a hangover is going to the vet!” Drunk man from Ireland with thick accent points to a Veterinary hospital.
“How?”, Me.
“They give you one of those shots eh and you’re smiling hahahahaha”
4. ” The solution to safety in autonomous cars is separation”, PHD Cognitive Psychology.
“What do you mean?”, Me.
“Barriers, the solution is barriers, if you have barriers between every lane then          accidents can’t happen.”
“Isn’t that a little impractical?”
“That’s the only way!”, exits car.

Think that’s about it. Probably not as interesting as I thought but it’s a good way for me to reflect on the week. I didn’t really experiment because you just go when the pax takes you, I head to World Square, Rose Bay, Newtown or Stanmore Maccas whichever is closest after dropping someone off. The only thing you can control is what time you get out there. Alright, that’s it.

Why Am I Driving Uber and Writing This Blog

Hi guys, I thought writing a blog would be a therapeutic experience for me, especially after the current events. I’ve been sitting around thinking, half-assing and not taking any action for long enough to the extent that one of my closest supporters has lost hope.

My first step is to start driving Uber, the goals I will be trying to achieve here are:

  1. Earn money for China trip and UK Trip
  2. Practice voluntary disciple e.g. go driving at consistent times everyday.
  3. Develop real hunger for better way to earn a living.
  4. Talk to interesting passengers and tell you guys the stories if they are interesting enough.

I was thinking about how to write in a consistent way with a consistent layout so it’s not just me blabbering about random things, so lets start of with:

  1. Screenshot of the amount I made for the week and a breakdown of stats e.g. hours work, dollars/hour, expenses, etc. (Not sure if this is interesting for anyone but I always find the numbers interesting)
  2. Experiments I did to improve the efficiency of my driving earnings.
  3. Interesting passengers, stories I over-hear, interesting conversations I have with them.
  4. Publish every Monday so it rounds up the last week.

GOGOGOGO!
